Cosmetic Acupuncture: Could it be the Fountain of Youth?

Cosmetic acupuncture just may be the wrinkle treatment you’ve been looking for.

Chinese acupuncture, which has been around for over 2,500 years, has been on a rise in the United States and is now seen as a safe and effective treatment for many issues — depression, chronic pain, arthritis, migraines, etc

But, did you know that acupuncture can also be an alternative treatment for wrinkles?

Cosmetic acupuncture can reduce scars and signs of aging by providing a healthier appearance to your face.

Supporters claim while it may not be the actual fountain of youth, it can provide for more radiant, youthful skin.

Licensed Acupuncturist, Maureen McLaughin, of JBS Wellness located in Gurnee, Illinois states that cosmetic acupuncture is a healthy alternative to cosmetic surgery or Botox.

McLaughin uses Mei Zen (which means beautiful person in Chinese) Cosmetic Acupuncture.  It involves placing fine needles to specific places on the face to increase blood circulation and collagen production.

She also places needles in other places on the body, because the entire body is connected to overall healing.

“It won’t make a 70-year old look 20, but it can have people impressed how good you look at 70.”  — Maureen McLaughin, LAc

Dr. Jill Balla Shaw, owner of JBS Wellness, states that there are four steps to the procedure.  But, the treatments can be applied individually or as a whole for a complete wrinkle reducing package.

  1. 1 dopler of a special homeopathic remedy is applied to the face. Some patients also add a few drops of the remedy into lotion to apply daily.  It can even be taken internally.
  2. The needles are applied in singles, groupings and sometimes crosshatched to build up collagen.
  3. A cold laser is used to accelerate healing.  Each segment of the face receives 4 minutes of laser treatment.
  4. The skin is then rolled, with a technique known as Jade Rolling.  Jade Rolling has been used for years in China to smooth out the skin.

Typically two treatments per week are required for five weeks.  Then, maintenance sessions are done once every 6-8 weeks.  Each time the wrinkles are treated, the entire body gets treated as it’s all connected to overall well-being.

JBS Wellness offers sample “mini-treatments” for patients to test out acupuncture to see if it’s for them. Patients of Dr. Shaw claim that they feel and look great after.

Not in the Gurnee, Illinois area?  No worries, Dr. Shaw can be contacted through authentichealthllc.com for consultation and products.

  1. Wow, that’s awesome! I’ve never tried acupuncture before but have always wanted to. I’ve been seeing a lot of people use the jade roller too, another thing I want to try one day!
